The BOSSEA cave presents the final part of a large karstic system that develops in the Maudagna-Corsaglia watershed, between the Conca di Prato Nevoso and the Corsaglia stream, in the municipality of Frabosa Soprana in the province of Cuneo at 836 meters altitude.

It is one of the most beautiful and important Italian tourist caves for the variety of its concretions, the size of the rooms, the richness of its water network and its underground lakes.

In June 2020 the new MUSA - Geological Museum Federico Sacco, dedicated to the great geologist and glaciologist of the same will open its doors. Installed in via Roma in the former bank of the Cassa di Risparmio di Fossano, this new cultural space is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific subjects accessible to all concerning geology and karst.

The itinerary of the exhibition begins with a tribute to Sacco and Fossano, telling how the curious child who admired the Monviso, the Alps and the meanders of the Stura river from the viewpoints of the city, finally found his answers when he became a geologist.

Thus, the visitor will discover the recent history of the Piedmontese tertiary basin, the sea that bathed the territories of Langhe and Roero or that there were sharks, dolphins and whales, with swamps, tropical forests and large animals on the surafce.

The caves and minerals of the Cuneo region, the recent discovery of a fossil forest 4 million years ago in Fossano, the Pleistocene glaciation and the drastic change of river networks in the province of Cuneo, which have shaped the landscape today.

An interactive table will allow you to deepen the information relating to the geological sites of the Geological Adventure between the Province of Cuneo and Provence and to admire the landscapes or even to digitally explore some of the documents of Federico Sacco.

A digital application will allow you to reveal the history of certain rocks, in an interactive educational game that will attract young and old.

A giant screen will show themed videos, including an animated film on the geological history of the Alps History. You will also have the possibility of identifying fossils and other minerals thanks to holograms made in three dimensions.

The continuous passage of time is symbolized inside the museum by a large spiral suspended above a stone garden where it will be possible to appreciate the great variety of rocks of Cuneo, of continental or oceanic nature.

The fossils and minerals characteristic of the area will be displayed in display cases.

A dark room will provide viewing of luminescent minerals.

In order to complete the didactic offer of the MUSA, an educational room dedicated to manipulation and discovery is available to school children. A case presenting 6 didactic and practical units will reveal to the most curious the geological history of the territory.

At the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park in Quinson, here is one of the largest prehistory museums in Europe. A modern building built by the architect Norman Foster, the museum offers a permanent exhibition that vividly retraces a million years of human history.

A prehistoric herd unique in the world then an exhibition punctuated by 3D reconstructions, scenes of prehistoric life, interactive animations and original archaeological objects. In addition, each year the museum hosts or creates a temporary exhibition to complement the museography. 500 meters from the museum, a prehistoric village has been reconstructed.

On certain dates, young and old can learn ancestral techniques such as spear throwing or flint cutting. The museum also offers a visit to the Baume Bonne cave, a major archaeological site classified as a historic monument.

The Digne les Bains Promenade Museum is an invitation to discover the heritage of the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence.

Come and explore the paths of its shaded park and its exhibition halls.

Discover the butterflies, admire the works of contemporary art installed along the paths.

Decipher the Memory of the Earth with ammonites and other fossils from the region. Dream about the disappeared seas in tropical aquariums.

Four paths run through the Promenade Museum and connect the car park with the Maison des Remparts. Each can be walked in about fifteen minutes. People with difficulty walking will advantageously take the tarmac road prohibited to vehicles (except service). It is also possible on request to access the Maison des Remparts by car. The Musée-promenade offers two exhibition buildings. The CAIRN art center gallery presents at least two contemporary art exhibitions per year. The Maison des Remparts offers rooms dedicated to ammonites, Geopark fossils, Geoparks in France and around the world, marine biodiversity of yesterday and today (tropical and Mediterranean aquariums) as well as temporary exhibitions.

Completely renovated in 2003, the Gassendi Museum is open to its own history as well as to its geographical environment through the originality of its collection. Inspired by cabinets of curiosities, the museum in the city center offers the visitor a rich collection, bringing together art and science, ancient and contemporary, inside and outside.

The visit extends into nature to explore the collection of contemporary art in situ, made up of around fifty works-places created in collaboration with the CAIRN art center and the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence through which artists invite you to discover the current and past history of certain sites and even to live there temporarily as in the Refuges d'Art d'Andy Goldsworthy.

The collection of fossils, minerals and scientific evidence of Federico Sacco, a geologist from the early XNUMXth century, is now accessible to the curious via a digital catalog available online!

Why a digital catalog?

• To scientifically organize pieces of different natures (texts, fossils, ...);
• To offer an architecture able to provide the details that make these pieces particularly interesting in the frame:
  • touristic ;
  • fun / didactic.

• To locate the parts and trace their provenance;
• To allow the collection to be made available on temporary loan;
• To offer access to a remarkable heritage to as many people as possible.

The Maison Nature & Patrimoines, located in the heart of Castellane within the Verdon Regional Natural Park, brings together three exhibition spaces including the geological exhibition “Sirens and fossils”, the Relais du Parc naturel régional du Verdon and a boutique-bookshop . Many activities, visits and conferences are offered throughout the year. Point of departure, welcome and discovery, it opens its doors to the natural and cultural riches of the Verdon territory.
