Day 3: Around Allos

In his project for the Fort de France in 1693, Vauban proposed to frame the city of two redoubts, fortified walls protecting the soldiers from enemy fire.

In April of the same year, construction of the Fort de Savoie begins. In October 1700, Vauban inspected Colmars and severely criticized this fort, which he deemed unsuitable: walls too low and thin, round tower too narrow to fire there from a cannon. He draws a more ambitious project which will never be realized. The fort could accommodate up to 150 men.
