Day 1: Shapes and colors on the Provence side

Simiane-la-Rotonde dominates the plain which allowed the village to prosper. During the flowering period (mid-June to August), this village, which hosts the largest lavender and lavandin cooperative in France, overlooks the large purple fields that are emblematic of Provence.

The roundness of the village echoes the Rotonde. Formerly a defensive dungeon, the Rotonde became a ceremonial hall in the days of the troubadours. It is particularly remarkable for its particularly complex architecture for the time, and which recalls influences from other oriental monuments.
