Day 1: Shapes and colors on the Provence side

The rocks of Mourres were formed in a lake environment, around 25 million years ago. Their origin is the stabilization of a limestone sediment by seagrass beds. More recently, erosion has cleared the buildings with fantastic looks.

These funny rocks inspired Eugène Plauchud who dreamed of them as men of stone and Camille Arnaud who made an imaginary Emir of the Moors camp there. More recently, Georges Lautner shot there one of his films based on Pierre Magnan's novel, “La Maison assassinée”.
