Day 3: Caves and materials
alt_route Stage 2 / Quarries of Frabosa
The stone and marble of Frabosa are of great chromatic value and of considerable importance for the local economy, as evidenced by their use in the Chapel of the Shroud of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin and in the Basilica of Superga.
Already in Antiquity, the Romans exploited in an industrial way the valley of Maudagna for its white marble and the iron deposits.
Frabosa marble is black or gray in color. At the entrance to the village is the Serro quarry, a splendid limestone amphitheater carved out of the chestnut groves where the educational and operational activities of the marble eco-museum take place.
