The physical setting of the Verdon region explains the abundance of human occupations that have followed one another for hundreds of thousands of years.

Mineral resources (flint, rare vein quartz, volcanic lava called rhyolite), the potential for water, animal resources (ibex, wild horse, large bovids such as aurochs and bison) and plants, in natural shelters are important and very favorable to the installation.

Explore the lower Verdon gorges and its shelters nestled in the cliffs by electric boat, canoe or paddle.

Shelters, caves and karst networks
A karstic relief develops on limestone formations, by dissolution of the rock by water (rain and groundwater). This process leads to the appearance of sinkholes (slight lowering of the land suitable for vegetation), sinkholes or sinkholes, caves, shelters, underground networks, etc.

The water network digs limestone massifs and creates cliffs, pits and caves. These are very numerous in the Gorges du Verdon!

Wood was abundant in the area, all the essential conditions were met for the establishment of huts, tents, cabins in the open space areas.
